SOLOMON SEA

Picture
There is a lot shown here, and hopefully, future maps will be more thematic - showing only one thing well, instead of so much stuff. Nevertheless, I tried to present some of the character of the area graphically. Of course the war is long gone, but remnants of the war may still be seen lying here and there. In a way, if you spend enough time in the area and travel around it will be like moving around inside a war museum. There are two things of note in the map: the location of the Lark Force in New Britain and the Coast Watchers in the Solomons. They were Australians who risked everything and many lost, but their sacrifice will long be remembered as a example of the best of humanity. (P.S. I'm a Yank) The flags indicate the location of a significant presence of that nation's forces during the war. Other images/clip art indicate either animals or other things I personally saw or things friends say are there. For instance I never saw the flying dinosaurs shown near Lae and elsewhere, but I know a guy who swears they're there!
Understanding the culture is not as important as respecting the people.
